Congressman Harris has deep roots in this district, which includes Maryland’s Eastern Shore and Baltimore’s northern suburbs. Harris, whose parents came to America as refugees from Communist Eastern Europe, is a physician with a long record of service in the Naval reserves. He served in the Maryland State Senate for 12 years before being elected to Congress by the people of the First District in 2010. He is the current Chairman of the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and related agencies subcommittee on Appropriations. He is the only Republican in the Maryland delegation.
