Rep. Monica De La Cruz

Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz is the first Latina and first Republican to represent the 15th Congressional District of Texas in the United States House of Representatives. She currently sits on the Committee on Financial Services and the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Monetary Policy.

For over 20 years, Monica led several successful small businesses in her community, including an insurance agency, which she ran until her election to Congress in 2022.

In 2022, Congresswoman De La Cruz flipped a Democrat-held seat and became the first Hispanic woman to represent Texas as a Republican. Her victory was another sign that more and more Hispanics in Texas’s Rio Grande Valley are leaving behind their traditional affiliation with the Democratic Party and joining the GOP.
