Rep. Steve Scalise

Congressman Steve Scalise represents the 1st Congressional District of Louisiana. He was elected to Congress in 2008 after serving in the Louisiana State Legislature from 1996-2008. Congressman Scalise strives to uphold the Constitution and advocates for the principles of fiscal discipline, lower taxes, a robust national defense, strong border security, freedom, and conservative values.

For the current 118th Congress, he was elected House Majority Leader by his colleagues, the second highest position in House Republican Leadership. As Majority Leader, Scalise is responsible for the day-to-day workings of the House of Representatives and helps Republicans communicate their priorities to the American people. By scheduling legislation on the House Floor for a vote and guiding committee chairs on which policies and bills to prioritize, Majority Leader Scalise plays a vital role in setting the House’s overall agenda.

Critically wounded at a Congressional baseball practice on June 14, 2017, he was saved by a heroic response from U.S. Capitol Police special agents and Alexandria Police officers. Congressman Scalise fought for his life and returned to Congress, inspiring the nation with his resilience and optimism.
